San Diego Rescue Mission will hold its 8th Annual Interfaith Vigil Sunday, Nov. 1, in honor of the men and women who died homeless and alone on the streets this past year.

Those who died will be honored with an interfaith candlelight service. Each man and woman's name will be read.



WHEN: Sunday, November 1, 2009, from 4:00-5:15 PM

WHERE: County Administration Center (on the West Stairs off Harbor Drive) - 1600 Pacific Hwy. San Diego, CA 92101

WHY: To pay our respects to those who have died alone on the streets of San Diego county in the past year. To bring awareness to the citizens of our community about the fact that there are close to 10,000 men, women and children living each day without shelter in San Diego.

WHO: Herb Johnson, President/CEO San Diego Rescue Mission; Local religious leaders; Community Leaders; and homeless men, women and children who have lost friends and loved ones. Come unite with concerned members of the San Diego community to bring awareness to the homeless plight.

PARKING: Free parking is available.

*An optional procession to the Vigil will depart from the Mission (120 Elm Street, corner of 1st Avenue and Elm) at 3:15 PM and walk down to the County Administration Center. Each person in the procession will carry down a pair of shoes to represent one of the deceased homeless men and women.

We will assemble in front of the Mission's main entrance on the corner of 1st and Elm. Those wishing to participate in this procession are able to park in the SDRM visitor garage on 1st Avenue, across the street from the Mission or one of the alternative parking areas below.
- 1st Presbyterian Church lots
- Street parking at any of the stops
- County Building – North Lot open
- Meters are free on Sunday!
