SAN DIEGO RESCUE MISSION TO HOLD 5th ANNUAL CANDLELIGHT VIGIL TO HONOR HOMELESS DEATHS
City Councilmember Toni Atkins to Give Remarks; Homeless Deaths Up Thirty Percent in 2006


WHAT:
The San Diego Rescue Mission will hold its 5th Annual Candlelight Vigil on Wednesday, Nov. 1, in honor of the 77 people who died while homeless in our community in the past year. Those who died homeless last year will be honored with a candlelight march form the Mission's facilities, located at 120 Elm St., to the downtown Community Concourse, where an interfaith service will be held.

Homeless deaths spiked 30 percent, from 59 last year to 77 this year. Nov. 1 also marks the opening of the single adults' winter homeless shelter at 6th and Newton downtown, more than one month earlier than previous years.
