San Diego Rescue Mission To Feed Over One Thousand Homeless
at 52nd Annual Congregate Thanksgiving Meal
Saturday, November 22, 2pm - 5pm
120 Elm Street, San Diego 92101
WHAT:
Over 1,600 of San Diego's homeless men, women and children
will gather at the San Diego Rescue Mission for a congregate Thanksgiving
meal on Saturday, November 22nd from 2pm - 5pm. Nearly 250 volunteers
(many from The Rock Church) will serve these individuals hot turkey
dinners and personal necessities like t-shirts, socks, towels, shampoo,
soap and lotion. These individuals and families living on the streets
will also be given information on the Rescue Mission's life-changing
programs.
The San Diego Rescue Mission's Annual Congregate Thanksgiving Meal
served an estimated 1,600 hot turkey diners to San Diego's homeless
last year. This year, the Rescue Mission expects to serve more meals
than last year.
WHO:
The San Diego Rescue Mission is one of the largest comprehensive
rehabilitation centers for the homeless in California. Focusing
on long-term treatment, the Rescue Mission houses hundreds of men, women,
and children and provides shelter, food, counseling, treatment, and
work therapy. The Rescue Mission serves over 3,000 individuals and prepares
over half a million meals annually. Additionally, The Rescue Mission's
Partners for Hunger Relief program collects and re-distributes millions
of pounds of surplus food every year throughout San Diego County that
would otherwise be thrown away. The San Diego Rescue Mission is the
only major homeless shelter in San Diego that does not receive government
funding for its long term rehabilitation programs, and is nationally
recognized for its successful programs. For more information or
