"Boy Scouts Eagle Badge Project"
Boy Scout Troop 782 Completes Finishing Touches on
Outdoor Playground at the San Diego Rescue Mission
For Dozens of Resident Children
WHAT:
Demonstrating a generous holiday spirit, approximately one dozen boy scouts from Troop 782 based at St. James Church in Solana Beach, will be donating time and supplies to the San Diego Rescue Mission, tomorrow, Saturday, December 6. The boy scouts, ages 11-18, will bring smiles and laughter to displaced and confused "little ones," fleeing domestic violence, abuse, and narcotics by completing the finishing touches on the new San Diego Rescue Mission playground. Inspired by troop member Patrick McAlister, the troop will show their creativity and leadership by providing planter boxes, plants, paint, and labor to complete the play area. Many of the homeless children at the San Diego Rescue Mission have a safe place to play for the first time at the approximately 3,000 square foot, recently-opened play area.
WHEN & WHERE:
December 6, 2008 (9am - 12pm)
San Diego Rescue Mission

WHO:
The San Diego Rescue Mission is one of the largest comprehensive rehabilitation centers for the homeless in California. Each night, The Rescue Mission provides up to 60 battered, homeless, or poor women and children with emergency overnight shelter through its Nueva Vida Haven program. The program provides them with hot dinners, clean clothes, showers, hygiene products, a play area for children, warm blankets, and hot breakfasts. Many of these women and families enter the Rescue Mission's long term recovery program. The San Diego Rescue Mission is the only major homeless shelter in San Diego that does not receive government funding for its long term rehabilitation programs, and is nationally recognized for its successful programs.
