"The San Diego Rescue Mission saved my life."

When I first walked through the front door of the San Diego Rescue Mission I was a broken man. Through my years of Drug abuse and gambling and running away from my responsibilities, I had hit rock bottom. I had a great childhood; my mother and father were together up until I was sixteen years old. My mother was the old fashioned housewife. She raised seven children, four girls and three boys. My father was a deputy sheriff, soon to be a homicide, narcotic investigator. I was a scholar athlete in High School.

I had everything going for me until I met my High School sweetheart. She soon became the most important thing in my life. To make a long story short, we fell in love, got married, had a little girl, and then she left me. We used to partake in drugs occasionally. When she divorced me I fell headlong into depression and Drug abuse. That's the thing I've noticed about drug addiction. It's the mind's way of coping for a loss or heartbreak. I was a fully functional drug abuser for about 15 years. I would get up in the morning, get my drugs, get my daughter off to school, and then go to work. I continued this way of life for about 10 years. About five years ago my daughter and I moved down to San Diego from the Bay area (San Francisco). I was clean for about 8 months then I got a job at the Convention Center. I met a guy who was dealing and one thing led to another. By this time my daughter was 16 years old and she had had enough. She moved into my sister's house. I was hired at a couple of jobs but soon was fired because of complications of drug abuse. The day before I came into the San Diego Rescue Mission I called my daughter and she said, "Dad, I want you to do us a favor." I said, "Anything, honey." She said that there is this place that I think will help you." The San Diego Rescue Mission saved my life. Since the day I came through those doors, I've patched things up with my daughter. I've quit drugs and alcohol, I quit smoking cigarettes. I got my license back. I've got my teeth fixed. I've found peace once again and hope for the future.
