"But I prayed to God to help me and He did."

I started using drugs when I was 15 years old. At first I was just using pot and alcohol. By the time I was 21 I was using cocaine. I had gotten married when I was 18. When I started using cocaine my marriage started falling apart. My daughter was born when I was 21 so I slowed down on my drug use. Everything seemed to be going good, I had a good job. I opened my own business when I was 26. Everything was going good the next 6 to 7 years, and then I started using again. My marriage fell apart a few years later and we got divorced in 1993. By 1996 I had closed down my business. It only got worse from there, I started using heroin. For the next 10 years I was using daily. I tried some different programs none of them worked, eventually I would start using again. Then I heard about the Rescue Mission from my girlfriend's cousin, and how it had helped him and how God had helped him stay clean for over ten years. I was sick and tired of using already so I decided to give it a try. I was here about three days and I almost left because I was going through withdrawals. But I prayed to God to help me and He did. And it has only gotten better since then. I have overcome all my legal issues since I have been here. I have gotten my GED. I got my Truck Driver's License, and by November 1 I should start my new career, God willing. I owe this all to the Rescue Mission and God. I thank God every day for bringing me here to the Mission and giving me the patience and the will to stay. I know that I will have to work at staying clean after I leave here. But with God's help I know I can overcome this, after I got through my withdrawals the first five days I was here, I have had no desire to go back to what I was doing before. I thank God for this. And I thank the San Diego Rescue Mission.
