"God obviously directed me here because I feel that this place really saved my life."

First, I must give honor and glory to my Lord and Savior Jesus Christ who is the keeper of my soul because one day; every knee shall bow and every tongue shall confess that Jesus is Lord. Now let me tell of some of the things that I believe that God has allowed me to go through to get me to this point in my life.

I was born in Salisbury, North Carolina (Rowan County) on April 13 1969; I was given over to my grandparents as a baby in Tabor City, North Carolina and did not meet my mother for the first time until the age of eight. As far as I was concerned, she brought me from rags to riches when she moved me in with her in High Point, North Carolina where I lived a normal childhood and I got everything I wanted and was literally spoiled rotten.

It wasn't until the age of 12 or 13 when in the seventh grade that I began smoking pot (and for me it was "on like a pot of neck bones with black eyed peas and a touch of cornbread on the side".) in spite of my drug use I still made good grades, participated in, and excelled in sports. My drug use continued throughout my adolescence to the 10th grade in which I left home and moved in with my uncle Johnny, who allowed me to continue using drugs and I also began to sell drugs I school until I got caught and subsequently dropped out of school at the beginning of my senior year, after which I moved to Winston Salem. Apparently God was still on His throne and had His hand in my life. Even though I still had not acknowledged Him at this point.

When I moved to Goldsboro, North Carolina, it was the same thing all over again with my drug use except I had decided to go into business with my biological father until he put a knife to my throat and my brother shot him. I then moved back to Tabor City, North Carolina, where my brother Mike and I started our roofing business. None of these events up to now caused me to discontinue my drug use; in fact, my drug use increased and I also started drinking like a fish until I wrapped my car around a tree. It took paramedics two and a half hours to cut me out of my vehicle and I was pronounced dead on arrival; but God still had His hand on me. I was in a coma for nine weeks and I can still remember how the doctors told my mother that I would never walk again and that I would be a vegetable for the rest of my life. When I came out of the come, it took me about six weeks to learn how to walk again; as soon as I could walk and they released me from the hospital, I started using and selling drugs again. Then I came to California where I got stuck on stupid for another year and a half until I came to the San Diego Rescue Mission. God obviously directed me here because I feel that this place really saved my life.

And now after being in this place, I feel as if I have found my purpose in life and I have a new direction to go. I thank God that He loved me enough to bring me here to be amongst such a host of incredibly blessed and favored people and I believe without a shadow of a doubt that God has a plan for my life and I am endeavoring to continue to press toward whatever calling He has for me. Even through all the damage and hurt that I have caused to my family and those around me for the past 37 years, my mother still loves and supports me in pursuing the things of God and I hope and pray that one day I am enabled to preach the Word of God to the World.
