"I was homeless and was unable to cope with my disease."

My parents came from Mexico, I was born in San Diego, and I attended school in San Diego and completed the 11th grade. My experimentation with drugs started while I was in high school. My parents were very hard workers and never used drugs or alcohol. I came from a large family of eight. My grandma was my inspiration; she was the one who gave me a foundation in my religious belief. Eventually my drug use became an addiction, which stopped me from continuing in school. I found myself addicted to heroin at the young age of 17. The addiction was very expensive and I resorted to a life of crime. So my life of crime finally caught up with me and I was arrested for several misdemeanors. This led to incarceration in prison for 3 terms totaling 6 years. When I got out of prison my family helped me get into a Christian based program, I stayed there for 6 months but I was unable to let my addictive personality go and left the program. I spent a year under the power of my addiction, I was homeless and was unable to cope with my disease. My life consisted of a sense of worthlessness and a feeling of hopelessness, which I had never experienced before. I realized that if my life was going to b productive I desperately needed to surrender all to my Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. A person on the street approached me and told me of the philosophy and teachings of the Mission. I some time look back at this individual as if he were an angel. I approached the mission door with a determination to take control of my life and let God be my leader. I thought I wasn't capable of learning so much in just one year. The Mission has given me a second chance at life. I've found such a compassion for God and His teachings. I've found what it means to live in His righteousness and to such holiness by His guidance in order to gain eternity. By following God's law and knowing these laws I stand a better chance of staying clean and sober for the rest of my life. Thanks be to God my Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
