This special night will also include a mid-service presentation from Donnie Dee, President & CEO of the San Diego Rescue Mission, sharing about the current state of homelessness in our county and how we can respond with faith and compassion.

In America, the tragedy of hunger isn’t that we lack food. It’s that so much of it is wasted.

Every day, food that would otherwise be discarded is transformed into hope for our neighbors in need.

Through our Partners for Hunger Relief program, we fight food insecurity across San Diego by redistributing “rescued food.” The food we collect nourishes individuals in our programs, and the surplus is shared with nonprofit food pantries countywide — multiplying impact and extending dignity to thousands.

Our Partners for Hunger Relief program rescues millions of pounds of nutritious food each year that would otherwise go to waste.

In 2025, we received 3 million+ pounds of food and served 482,184 nourishing meals. 🍽️ Your support helps men, women, and children facing food insecurity and homelessness in San Diego. 🏡

“My decision to come here was because it’s more faith-based here, but faith classes and stuff are optional (at the Lighthouse). I see myself where I have a good connection with God.”

Amanda’s life changed in an instant. When her stepmother suffered a mental breakdown, Amanda suddenly found herself without a home. Desperate for safety and support, she began a search for a place where she could belong.

Just before Christmas, Amanda moved into South County Lighthouse, our 30-day emergency shelter. She remembers the warm breakfast, Christmas movies, and seeing lights with extended family. She felt cared for and welcomed. In one of our classes, she learned how her past choices shaped her present. She began to reflect, manage her emotions in healthier ways, and make stronger decisions for her future.
Amanda found steady encouragement from her advocate, who reminded her of her worth and strength. Through Bible studies and Celebrate Recovery, she continued to grow in faith and confidence.

Today, Amanda is thriving at Mission Academy, our year-long residential program. She was recently spotted training with the Up and Running Team.

We are deeply grateful for our supporters, donors, and community partners whose faithful generosity makes stories like Amanda’s possible and gives women the opportunity to step into hope, healing, and a new beginning.

Imagine a San Diego where homelessness is rare, brief, and non-recurring.

Our vision goes beyond care—it’s about transformation. In 2004, the former Harbor View Medical Center became our downtown home, a place where hope takes root and lives are rebuilt. From here, Mission Academy blossomed, offering a yearlong, trauma-informed journey to help individuals heal from the inside out.

Today, that vision is growing. Alongside 310 beds at our downtown Mission Academy campus, we now offer 163 beds in South County through our emergency shelter—and more expansion is underway across San Diego County.

Every step forward is possible because of faithful supporters like you. Together, we witness lives renewed, hope restored, and a city transformed—one person at a time.

When Jason walked through the doors of the San Diego Rescue Mission, he thought he was just getting a meal.

“I didn’t plan on staying.”

But inside, he found what had been missing since the day he was abandoned as a little boy: structure, faith, and a community that believed in him.

“I felt the Spirit. I felt strong and elevated in ways I’d never felt before.”

Through counseling, mentorship, and consistent support at Mission Academy, Jason began to confront old patterns, build healthy routines, and rebuild trust.

“The Mission didn’t just give me shelter. It gave me tools to change my life.”

Today, Jason’s passion for Christ shines as he leads a nonprofit food ministry with his family, feeding those in need and sharing the hope that once saved him. He also mentors men and women struggling with addiction and homelessness, showing them what restoration truly looks like.

“I’m living proof that God still restores people.”

Because of faithful support, lives like Jason’s are being transformed every day.

$Jason can trace the fracture point of his life back to the day his mother drove him into Mexico and left him with a man he had never met — his father. What followed wasn’t childhood. It was survival. Abuse. Instability. The streets. By his teens, drugs became the only way to numb what he couldn’t escape. As he entered adulthood, the cycle only deepened — homelessness, addiction, and prison. Years later, Jason returned to San Diego hoping for a fresh start. But addiction followed him. Instability followed him. And eventually, prison followed him. It was there — behind bars — that everything began to change. An inmate handed him a Bible. The very next day, a pastor stopped at his cell and asked, “Do you want to know anything about God?” Jason said yes. A seed of hope was planted. But when he was released, he was spiritually awakened and completely alone. No home. No plan. No idea where he would sleep that night. Hungry and walking the streets, he went looking for a hot meal.
