Volunteers at the Rescue Mission are the most compassionate & caring people in San Diego!

Important Message

Thank you for your interest in volunteering. We are grateful for the outpouring of care and compassion. Due to an overwhelming desire to serve at the holidays, all the volunteer experiences are filled through the end of the year. In January, we will be identifying afresh the needs of the Mission and the best ways for you to have a meaningful volunteer experience. Please check back with us then!

Please note: If your business is interested in serving with us, please email Jazmin Ernest at jernest@sdrescue.org.

Each volunteer is a special part of our Rescue Mission team, who help serve others in so many ways:

Please note that we are unable to work with court-mandated volunteers at this time.

Individual Volunteer Opportunities

In addition to limited one-time volunteer opportunities, we greatly appreciate volunteers who can commit to serving with us on a consistent basis.

All volunteers, with the exception of those participating in a special event or one-time group volunteer opportunity, MUST submit an application and go through an online background check process at an $18 cost to the individual.

Please check back for new opportunities in January!

Opportunities for individuals include serving meals, job readiness training, organizing donations, serving as a hairstylist or barber, or handing out linens and essentials to guests in our emergency shelter for women and children.

Help make a difference in our community.  Each day we give out 8,000-10,000 pounds of food to churches and non-profit organizations who then feed the homeless and families in need.

Helpers are needed to organize the food and load the vehicles Monday-Friday from 10am to 1pm.

Our new outreach initiative, Walk With Me, is looking for individuals to be trained to walk alongside a man or woman experiencing homelessness as a friend for an extended period of time.  Learn more here.

Group Volunteer Opportunities

If you represent a business, church, school or service organization and would like to bring a group in to serve, start by providing some basic information with our Group Volunteer Opportunity Interest Form. Please check back for new opportunities in January!
