“For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you a hope and a future. Then you will call on me and come and pray to me, and I will listen to you.” – Jeremiah 29:11-12 (NIV)
We are grateful for our long-time partner, Daybreak Church, which has supported the San Diego Rescue Mission for four years through financial contributions and volunteer efforts. Last year, they logged 154 volunteer hours and even visited our staff meeting, bringing encouragement and doughnuts for our growing team.
Daybreak has also sponsored our new 5th-floor outdoor garden and play structure project, as well as the recent remodel of a dorm room in our Mission Academy residential program. These spaces provide places of healing and growth for our students, and we are thankful for Daybreak’s generous support.
This month, we had the honor of hosting Community Pastor, Laura Berg, and a group of young leaders from Daybreak’s Leadership College for a Mission Academy tour. The afternoon was filled with inspiration, gratitude, and prayer
Alicia, a student living in the newly renovated bedroom, shared a powerful story with the group. She talked about the shame she felt while homeless and how she is learning about forgiveness, gratitude, and managing money. “The San Diego Rescue Mission has changed my life, and I’m so thankful,” Alicia said. She mentioned how peaceful and healing her new space is and expressed deep gratitude.
The tour ended with a heartfelt prayer for Alicia, led by Daybreak’s student leaders. These students are discovering their gifts for ministry in the church and beyond. In a special moment, everyone gathered around Alicia to pray for her growth and God’s plan for her future.
Thank you, Daybreak, for your ongoing partnership and for helping us make a real difference in our community. We look forward to working together to continue changing lives in San Diego County.
