In addition, 3,583 volunteers gave 26,934 hours of their time across our shelters and Mission Academy locations, playing a vital role in making hope and healing possible.

Two years ago, Board Member Bob Bixel decided to learn the bass and bring live music to our staff Christmas party. With Board Member John Pasha’s space, gear, and guitar skills, Bob’s idea grew into a full band of board members, staff, and friends of the San Diego Rescue Mission.

The Bandits rocked our Christmas Staff Celebration with amazing tunes and big hearts! ❤️🎶

City sidewalks, busy sidewalks, dressed in holiday style…

🎄 We are thrilled to celebrate the fourth year of Lights on Quarter Horse Circle in Oceanside! This beautiful family tradition, created by Jess, Steven, and their kids, shares joy, faith, and generosity each Christmas.

What began in 2022 as a homegrown light show has grown into an inspiring way to share the love of Jesus and raise support for San Diego Rescue Mission. Each year, the family expands their synchronized light display and welcomes neighbors to gather, using their platform to uplift people experiencing homelessness in our city.

✨ Lights on Quarter Horse has new features this year! The show runs nightly from 5–10pm for families to enjoy from their cars or the benches out front. Hot cocoa nights return this December (dates on Instagram), bringing neighbors together to enjoy the lights and community.

Each year, this display not only brightens the neighborhood—it helps support the Mission’s life-changing work in San Diego.

Throughout her childhood, Nickole faced one terrifying ordeal after another. “My life was filled with neglect, abuse, loneliness, violence and substance abuse.” Rotating through custody from her mother, father, and an abusive foster family, she prayed for comfort. “I was desperate, scared and looking for help.”

At 17, she moved in with her mother, hoping for change. Sadly, the environment was hopeless. “My mom was struggling with an active addiction and lived a life of promiscuity.” Later, as a mother herself, Nickole found herself trapped in the same cycle. “I was stuck in the same cycle of domestic violence, drugs, trauma bonds – the cycle my parents lived.”

When a fire destroyed their home, she and her children ended up living in a tent. “I was beyond broken and hopeless, but I was determined that there had to be a way out.”

"I didn't really have a chance to be a father, and now I do because he's here with me. I enjoy every day. "

Lance's childhood was surrounded by alcoholics and drug addicts, leading him to experiment with hard drugs by age 15. By 18, recurring arrests marked his troubled past.

Tired of his destructive lifestyle, Lance found hope at the San Diego Rescue Mission. The Mission changed his life, enabling him to gain custody of his child. Having his son daily strengthened their bond, with Lance valuing each moment.

Because of YOU, individuals like Lance and his son can find refuge and create cherished memories this Christmas.

Meet Guy
When Guy arrived at the South County Lighthouse, our 30-day emergency shelter on October 1, he carried the pain of homelessness, the end of a twenty-three-year marriage, and nights spent in his car or on couches. At sixty-one years old, he came seeking safety, dignity and a chance to rebuild his life.
Guy has survived more than most. A gunshot injury in 1990 cost him his leg, and he now walks with a prosthetic limb while facing ongoing health challenges, yet he carried a quiet strength that never wavered.
His progress was steady and determined. He stayed engaged with staff and completed his housing interview, taking each step with hope even when the future felt uncertain.
Then the moment he had prayed for arrived: he received a housing match and got his keys.
“BLESSED AND JOYFUL!”
Guy is grateful for his new home, all the support he’s received, and the shelter that held him during one of the hardest seasons of his life.
