Welcome. I’m Herb Johnson, President and CEO of the San Diego Rescue Mission. I want to personally thank you for taking the time to learn more about our organization, the plight of our clients, and how, with God’s help, we create positive, lasting change for abused, addicted, and homeless people throughout San Diego.

When we first opened our doors to the homeless in 1955, the San Diego Rescue Mission offered little more than a warm meal, temporary shelter and the good news that Jesus loves them.

That good news remains the same, but our organization has grown. More than six decades later the San Diego Rescue Mission provides a full range of comprehensive services that rehabilitates lives — and restores hope — for hundreds of people each year.

In the past year alone the San Diego Rescue Mission has introduced a men and women’s transitional housing program that provides structure and serves as a model of what living independently will be like as much as possible. Transitional Housing offers clients an opportunity to take full responsibility for their own decisions while still being in a secure and supportive environment.

To better serve the women in the Rescue Mission’s year-long recovery program, transitional housing and overnight-shelter, we’ve introduced our in-house Children’s Center. The curriculum focuses on developing Kindergarten readiness. And thanks to the kindness of our donors, we’ve also been blessed with an upgraded environment for our overnight shelter for women.

In addition, the Rescue Mission has added space in a new facility across the street from our primary location to increase capacity for our educational programs.
We are indeed humbled by the knowledge that true impact has only been possible through our supporters’ generosity – and guidance from God. Lives do change here.

Thank you and God bless you for your compassion,
