San Diego Rescue Mission is a non-profit homeless shelter and recovery center serving thousands of homeless, hungry, and poor men, women, and children in San Diego since 1955.

Emergency Shelter for Women and Children

Emergency ShelterWhile our focus is on serving the comprehensive needs of an individual, the fact remains that there are some situations where the homeless – specifically women and their children – first need to find a safe place to spend the night.

In response to this increasing need, we opened Nueva Vida Haven in 2000.

This emergency shelter for women and children (under the age of 16) provides a secure place to sleep, as well as hot meals, clothing, hygiene products, and access to warm showers.

While San Diego sleeps, our staff is on duty serving as many as 60 women and children each night. Many are homeless and/or battered. Without Nueva Vida Haven, many would be alone on the streets.

Our staff then works with each woman to learn about their specific situation, helping them to determine the best course of action for life improvement. Oftentimes this includes entry into our long-term recovery Women and Children’s Center program.

No matter what the final outcome, the women and children we serve receive more than a safe night’s sleep.

They get to experience healing, love, and HOPE!
