Partners for Hunger Relief is an outstanding, collaborative endeavor. Through this special program we help feed thousands of people each year. Partners for Hunger Relief bolsters food recovery efforts throughout San Diego, serving a broad base of agencies and people.
Through Partners for Hunger Relief we collect millions of pounds of nutritious food each year – food that would otherwise be thrown away. Our refrigerated trucks allow us to pick up meats and perishable foods and keep them at safe temperatures. Over 100 grocery stores, restaurants, caterers, universities, hotels and hospitals contribute to this effort. Specific contributors include Qualcomm Stadium and the San Diego Convention Center.
The San Diego Rescue Mission, in partnership with the Jacobs & Cushman San Diego Food Bank, provides food items at no cost to more than 45 501(c)3 nonprofits who operate hunger relief programs within San Diego County. Each of these partners has been accepted to the Food Bank’s Food to Nonprofits Program and receives annual site visits to ensure food safety and overall compliance with regulations. A distribution to these partners takes place at the Rescue Mission’s City Heights warehouse on a weekly basis. The warehouse’s central location is easily accessible to many organizations who would not otherwise be able to frequently travel to the Food Bank’s warehouse in Miramar. This mutually beneficial relationship allows food to move quickly and efficiently from the Food Bank’s warehouse into the hands of the community.
