We’re opening a brand NEW Thrift Shop at 3601 Sports Arena Blvd in Point Loma!
San Diego Rescue Mission recently signed a 10-year lease for the Point Loma property that had been vacant for two years.
“We have gathered items for the store that are ‘gently used’ and donated by caring neighbors,” said Herb Johnson, President and CEO of San Diego Rescue Mission. “Goods in the store range from furniture and electronics to blue jeans, baby clothes and wedding dresses to sofas, housewares and luggage. The interior of the store is renovated and fresh and the outside has been thoroughly reconditioned. It looks so much better and more inviting to shoppers!”
In addition to helping raise money for critical programs that help San Diego’s homeless, thrift shop operations in Point Loma will also be used as a training ground for people in the Rescue Mission’s recovery programs by providing work therapy positions, teaching retail, book-keeping, and other skills our clients will use when they return as contributing members of society. Clients will also work in the warehouse and help move and stock merchandise.
“The work-therapy phase,” said Johnson, “gives our clients skills for when the time comes for them to transition out of the (recovery) program and, with God’s grace, become contributing members of the community.”
Doors to the new thrift store open tomorrow, Friday, March 21, 2014 with the official Grand Opening scheduled for May 2, 10am-2pm.
